Wayland assessors approve $2,031 in December motor vehicle abatements

WAYLAND — January 9, 2023 — Wayland assessors approve $2,031 in December motor vehicle abatements. The Board of Assessors voted unanimously Jan. 9 to grant 28 motor vehicle excise abatements totaling $2,031.21 — 26 from calendar 2022 worth $1,369.75 and two from 2021 worth $661.46 — with Chair Zachariah L. Ventress, Vice-Chair Philip David Parks and member Steven Klitgord participating remotely. The assessing director, identified as Rob, said Wayland's fiscal 2023 tax rate has been certified at $16.65 per thousand and that real estate and personal property abatement applications are due Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. Parks, citing heavy phone and email traffic about rising values, asked that the office's standard response template be circulated to board members "just so we're on exactly the same page." The board rescheduled its next meeting to Tuesday, Jan. 24, with an executive session to address fiscal 2022 Appellate Tax Board cases and a long-unresolved billing error on a Framingham-owned parcel dating to roughly 2016.
