Wayland assessors advance CPA bid to restore eight historical registers

WAYLAND — November 14, 2023 — Wayland assessors preview a $1.13 drop in the tax rate and advance a CPA bid for historical registers. The Board of Assessors, meeting remotely Nov. 14, voted 3-0 to submit a Community Preservation Act funding request to restore eight historical assessors' registers, with member Steven Klitgord moving and member Massimo Taurisano seconding. Vice-Chair Philip David Parks chaired the session and confirmed the fiscal 2024 tax rate would fall from $16.65 to $15.52 per thousand, a highlight of the board's Nov. 20 presentation to the Select Board. Principal Assessor Rob said the deck would address the uniform-versus-split rate question and noted Wayland's residential share continues to grow against commercial, industrial and personal property. Members also tabled the fiscal 2024 motor vehicle excise commitment, which had not arrived by its Nov. 10 deadline, before entering executive session at 6:15 p.m.
