Wayland 212 Cochituate committee elects Fay chair, sets February report deadline

WAYLAND — July 16, 2025 — Wayland's new 212 Cochituate Road Advisory Committee elected Select Board member Tom Fay as chair and set a Feb. 15 report deadline. The eight-member panel, created under Article 30 of Annual Town Meeting, will recommend how to develop the town-owned four-acre parcel for affordable housing serving adults with intellectual, learning or physical disabilities. A Town Meeting concept envisioned two homes with six to eight residents each, but Affordable Housing Trust Chair Mike Statey questioned that ceiling, saying the R60 site "can support a lot more than two" and floating a friendly Chapter 40B. Housing Authority commissioner John Thomas urged members to first survey local need, including students aging out of Wayland Public Schools at 22, before fixing parameters. Select Board member Bill Whitney will serve as liaison on the committee's charge. Town Planner Robert Hummel sits ex officio.
