Warriors Golf Drops Three Straight As Fall Season Opens
WAYLAND — Wayland High School's boys golf team dropped three matches in three days to open its season this week, while Wayland Youth Soccer celebrated a postseason berth for one of its middle school travel teams.
HIGH SCHOOL
The Warriors' boys golf team opened the season with a rough stretch, losing all three of its matches this week on the road. Wayland fell to Bedford High School 255-237 Tuesday at Patriot Golf Course, lost 243-234 to Westwood High School Wednesday at Norfolk Golf Club, and dropped a 254-243 decision to Acton-Boxborough Regional High School Thursday at Quail Ridge. The Warriors have not found their footing yet against a tough early slate of Bay State Conference and Dual County League competition.
Wayland's other fall programs were busy across every level, even where final scores were not available. The boys soccer program ran through Oliver Ames High School at the varsity, junior varsity and freshman levels Monday at Wayland High School, then the varsity and JV squads met Marblehead High School Saturday. On the girls side, the varsity and JV soccer teams faced Ursuline Academy Tuesday, with the JV match canceled, and then played Watertown High School Thursday. The freshman girls soccer team lost 0-3 to Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School Thursday at Bennett Field, "The Rock."
Wayland's field hockey program, coming off last week's four-team jamboree test in Lynnfield, traveled to Wakefield Memorial High School Monday with both its varsity and JV squads. The football program's varsity and JV also opened the week, hosting Needham High School Friday at Wayland High School, with the varsity playing on Stadium Field and the JV on the adjacent Football Grass.
YOUTH
Wayland Youth Soccer's 7th-8th grade Boys Strikers travel team earned a berth in the MTOC Tournament, the organization announced this week, a notable postseason achievement for one of WAYS' competitive travel squads. The news landed the same week the club opened its BAYS travel uniform ordering window: players in grade three and up can order kits starting Monday, August 31, through the Natick Outdoor Store, either online or in person at 38 North Ave. Players with uniforms from last season do not need new ones through the spring 2027 season. WAYS also reported all of its fields open as of Thursday, September 3, as the club builds toward its September 12 kickoff for the Fall 2026 season.
Wayland Little League announced the completion of the Eliza J. Norton Foundation's "Build with Heart" dugout project at Cochituate Park, a facility upgrade the league sponsored as a Champion Sponsor. Fall registration for Little League baseball and softball is now closed, the league said, directing questions to its registrar.
LOOKING AHEAD
Wayland's golf team will look to find its first win of the season as the fall schedule continues, while the football, soccer and field hockey programs return to action across all levels next week. On the youth side, Wayland Youth Soccer's Fall 2026 season for grades K through 8 kicks off September 12, and families should watch for scheduling details on the Boys Strikers' MTOC Tournament run.
