WAYS Launches Search For Volunteer Committee Chairs
With Wayland High School out of season and no games on the ArbiterLive schedule this week, the notable development in town sports came from Wayland Youth Soccer, which is recruiting volunteers to chair three open committees as part of a push to modernize the organization ahead of its fall season.
YOUTH
Wayland Youth Soccer (WAYS) is building out a new committee structure and is looking for parents and community members to help run it, the organization said on its website. Eight committees now anchor the program's operations, and WAYS is actively recruiting chairs for three of them: Finance Advisory, Governance & Compliance and Technology. The organization says volunteers do not need to be board members to join a committee, or even to chair one.
Five other committees already have leaders in place. Danielle Silverman chairs Coaching & Player Development. Lesley Stewart chairs Community, Events & Partnerships. Kelly Pierce chairs Fields & Scheduling. Matt DiRoberto and Sam Girgis co-chair Equipment & Merchandise. Brud Wright chairs Referee Development, which doubles as a recruiting pipeline: WAYS is encouraging players and parents to become certified referees, a role the organization says lets volunteers "earn money, give back and learn leadership skills."
The push comes as WAYS continues to process registration for its Fall 2026 season, open to players in grades K through 8.
LOOKING AHEAD
Wayland Youth Basketball's 2025-26 registration opens August 18, and Wayland Youth Soccer's committee recruitment drive continues as the fall season approaches. Families interested in chairing the Finance Advisory, Governance & Compliance or Technology committees can apply through the WAYS volunteer form.
