Warriors Football Routs Hopkinton 35-0 In Blowout Win
WAYLAND — Wayland High School's football team delivered the week's biggest statement, shutting out Hopkinton High School 35-0 on Friday, while the Warriors' fall slate produced a mixed bag elsewhere: two lopsided soccer wins, a five-set volleyball victory and a tough loss for field hockey.
HIGH SCHOOL
Football was the story of the week. The Warriors routed Hopkinton High School 35-0 on Friday at Stadium Field, a dominant, wire-to-wire performance that stood as the most decisive result across any Wayland team this week. The freshman squad had a rougher outing, falling to Bedford High School on Thursday on Wayland's football grass field.
Boys varsity soccer was Wayland's most consistent winner. The Warriors beat Natick High School 6-1 on Tuesday on Natick's turf, then went on the road again Friday and beat Dedham High School by the same 6-1 score. The junior varsity boys soccer team also played both Natick and Dedham on those dates.
Girls soccer split its results Wednesday at Milford High School. The varsity Warriors battled to a 2-2 tie on Milford's turf field, while Wayland's girls junior varsity squad beat Milford 5-1 on the adjoining grass field.
Girls varsity volleyball won a five-setter, beating Wellesley High School 3-2 at the Wayland Field House on Tuesday. The junior varsity and freshman volleyball teams also hosted Wellesley the same night.
Field hockey had a harder week. The girls varsity squad fell to Waltham High School 1-6 on Thursday at Stadium Field. The junior varsity field hockey team also faced Waltham that afternoon on the grass field.
Boys golf continued to struggle, losing to Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on Wednesday at Sandy Burr Country Club. It's the fourth match without a win to open the fall season, following three straight losses the week before, including a 254-243 defeat to Acton-Boxborough Regional. Wayland's cross country teams also opened their seasons Wednesday, competing in a multi-team meet hosted by Bedford High School.
YOUTH
Wayland Youth Soccer's fall 2026 season kicked off Saturday, September 12, for players in kindergarten through eighth grade, following weeks of registration and a coaches' meeting. The organization closed all grass fields Sunday, September 13, for the day, a reminder for families as the new season gets underway. WAYS is also directing BAYS travel players in grade three and up to Natick Outdoor Store for new uniform kits, available online and in person.
Wayland Little League closed registration for its fall baseball and softball programs this week. The league also marked the completion of the Eliza J. Norton Foundation's "Build with Heart" dugout project at Cochituate Park, a capital improvement Wayland Little League backed as a "Champion Sponsor."
LOOKING AHEAD
Wayland's football team will look to carry its 35-0 momentum forward, while boys soccer, unbeaten this week with matching 6-1 wins over Natick and Dedham, tries to keep rolling. Field hockey will look to regroup after its loss to Waltham, and boys golf will try to snap an early four-match skid. Off the field, Wayland Youth Soccer's fall season, now underway across town fields, continues week to week for its kindergarten-through-eighth-grade players.
