WAYLAND — Wayland High School football put up 42 points in a 42-19 win over Newton South High School on Friday, the headline result in a week that also saw the girls soccer team win twice, the volleyball team storm back from a five-set loss to beat Westford Academy, and field hockey bounce back with a lopsided win of its own.

Girls soccer put together the program's best week, beating Cambridge Rindge and Latin School 2-1 on the road Wednesday, then following up with a 4-0 win at Westfield High School on Saturday. The junior varsity squad fell 0-1 at Cambridge-Danehy on Wednesday, and its Saturday rematch at Westfield was postponed. The freshman team lost 1-3 to Westford Academy at home Wednesday. On the boys side, the junior varsity tied Westford Academy 1-1, while the freshman team beat Westford Academy 6-1 at Robinson Elementary School's soccer fields.
Volleyball split a tough two-game week that ended on a high note. The varsity dropped a five-set match to Natick High School 1-3 on Tuesday, then rallied to beat Westford Academy 3-2 in five sets on Wednesday, a comeback win that snapped the loss to Natick. Both the junior varsity and freshman squads lost to Westford Academy on Wednesday after facing Natick on Tuesday.
Field hockey answered a rough stretch with a 5-1 win over Westford Academy on Wednesday at Stadium Field. The junior varsity squad lost its game against Westford Academy the same day.
Golf continued to struggle, falling to Waltham High School 251-240 at Sandy Burr Country Club on Wednesday.

Wayland Youth Soccer closed all grass fields as of Sunday and told families to check the organization's website Monday morning for an update before any scheduled games or practices.
