Trust Fund Commission tables $18,762 library disbursement pending account reconciliation
WAYLAND -- June 6, 2023, Wayland Trust Fund Commission tables $18,762 library payout amid governance questions. The three-member panel, meeting remotely Tuesday under acting chair Barry Rothschild, unanimously approved $6,150 from the Greaves Fund for elementary-school performances and $179 from the Gossels Fund for a bronze nameplate honoring John C. Dyer, but held off on Millennium Fund disbursements after Treasurer-Collector Lily Marasco said some prior payments had bypassed the commission and been made from the town's general fund. Commissioner Adam Garrett Gutbezahl said the roughly $1.1 million library endowment "sounds more like another line item account for the library, not a trust that should be under our purview," noting "it's really hard to ensure the longevity of a fund if we have no say in withdrawals." Commissioners plan a short follow-up meeting before June 30 and may seek a town counsel opinion.
