Recreation Commission backs community-built storage sheds at Cochituate Field

WAYLAND — May 20, 2024 — Wayland Recreation Commission backs community-built storage sheds at Cochituate Field. The commission voted Monday to support a privately funded shed project behind the newly built dugouts, subject to approval by Town Manager Michael McCall and the town's new long-term capital planning task force. CPC funds available July 1 will pay roughly $30,000 to $35,000 to refurbish both backstops and fund ADA bleachers and a full park design study. Foundation reps said volunteers from the men's softball league would build the sheds, saving against $12,000-$16,000 prefab quotes. Resident Dave Bernstein used public comment to attack the recent special town meeting on artificial turf as "unnecessary," pegging its cost near $50,000; Co-Chair Lesley Stewart told him to "agree to disagree." Asa Foster and Stewart were reaffirmed as co-chairs; next meeting is June 24.
