PMBC approves $8,943 COA change order, $20,908 library pump replacement

WAYLAND — April 22, 2025 — Wayland's Permanent Municipal Building Committee approved two change orders and previewed the library's next mechanical phase. Members unanimously approved Change Order No. 10 on the Council on Aging project for $8,943.75, covering a hot-water aquastat and a MassDOT-required bollard and chain at the Route 20 entrance, and authorized up to $20,908 to replace a failed library ejector pump pending resolution of a sales-tax and math question on the vendor quote. Project manager Kim said the COA building is "almost at the finish line" ahead of a June 6 open house, with about $41,000 in contingency and roughly $44,000 in deferred parking-lot lighting work moved outside the contractor's scope. Members began plotting how to spend the more than $1 million still unallocated for library HVAC replacement — originally scoped at $2 million — with one suggesting a design-build approach: "If we go direct, we can probably get some economies." Next meeting May 27.
