Planning Board nears approval of Council on Aging Community Center
WAYLAND -- July 25, 2023, Wayland Planning Board moves Council on Aging Community Center to the brink of approval. After more than three hours of review on July 25, members unanimously continued the public hearing to Aug. 9, choosing a split Y-and-T solar canopy layout designed to meet 100 percent of the building's anticipated electricity needs through rooftop and parking-lot arrays. Chair Anette S. Lewis pressed for "one approvable plan" with no return trips, while traffic engineer Kevin Dandrade told the board MassDOT will allow the Route 20 curb cut only for emergency vehicles. Abutter Jeff Rahner of 6 Lillian Way called the canopies "really disappointing" next to a residential area. The board set 8 a.m.–10 p.m. operating hours, capped lighting at one foot-candle after 10 p.m. and required snow exceeding on-site storage to be trucked off within 24 hours.
