Planning Board continues Veritas school site plan hearing to September 24
WAYLAND -- August 27, 2024, Wayland Planning Board opens and continues Veritas Christian Academy site plan hearing. Meeting in the absence of Chair Anette S. Lewis, acting chair Jennifer Steele led a 4-0 vote to continue the Dover Amendment hearing on the 162-172 Cochituate Road campus to Sept. 24, and a second 4-0 vote authorizing Town Planner Robert Hummel to commission traffic and stormwater peer reviews jointly with the Conservation Commission. Architect Chris Blessin of Tapay Architects said phase one would serve roughly 108 students and 15 staff, remove 280 trees against 48 preserved and 300 replacement plantings, and place a sport court 22 feet from a side lot line where 30 feet is required. Veritas board chair Joseph Medendorf told the board the K-8 school's aim "is not to build a thousand-person football field and to disrupt the community." Eight abutters from Shaw Drive and Yeager Way raised concerns about the Cochituate Road–Old Connecticut Path intersection, septic siting and lighting setbacks.
