Planning Board backs redesigned access plan for Wayland community center

WAYLAND — June 27, 2023 — Wayland Planning Board endorses redesigned Council on Aging site, eyes July 25 final vote. Members directed the applicant to flip the 8 Andrew Ave. site to one-way-in on Lillian Way and exit-only on Andrew Avenue, and to cut the parking-lot solar canopy roughly in half on the $11 million community center authorized by 89 percent of town meeting in May 2022. Chair Anette S. Lewis and Vice Chair Jennifer Steel were re-elected on a unanimous roll call. Town Manager Michael McCall said Zurich Wayland verbally approved the new Andrew Avenue curb cut, and TEC traffic engineer Kevin Dandridge said MassDOT District 3 wants Route 20 kept as emergency-only access. Former advisory committee co-chair Mark Foreman pressed the board to move, noting "it's been 408 days" since town meeting funded the project.
