WAYLAND — May 23, 2024 — Wayland Design Review Board tells 233 Boston Post Road team to seek variances on every signage element. Architect Ellen and Kenco Development contractor Todd Perrault appeared with Building Commissioner Mike Crisafulli on a building that is already permitted and half built for owner Dr. Ortiz, leaving signage and siding as the only live issues. The board, citing Section 501.1, said the bylaw's 40-square-foot cap applies "in aggregate to all the signs on the lot," meaning the owner's request for signs on both the north and west elevations will require Zoning Board of Appeals relief, along with variances for setback and likely height. Members pressed Ellen to ask the owner to tone down the contrast between "cobblestone" clapboard and "iron gray" panels, with one warning the building is already "bombastic enough." Planning Board member Robin, speaking as a private citizen, said residents are "appalled" at the structure. The board voted 3-0 to approve prior minutes before adjourning.
