Conservation Commission approves Islamic Center project, three land deals

WAYLAND — October 30, 2024 — Wayland Conservation Commission clears Islamic Center's 60-unit senior project and three new land deals. The commission voted 6-0 Wednesday to issue an order of conditions for the St. Anne Senior Village at 124 Cochituate Road after engineer Stephen Garvin of Samiotes Consultants walked through a revised "milk-crate" infiltration system that satisfied peer-review concerns; Conservation Administrator Linda Hansen made a final landscape plan and tree count conditions of the permit, calling for "a robust landscape plan" as mitigation. Members accepted a deed for Bennett Road, authorized Chair Sean P. Fair to sign a purchase-and-sale for 438 Old Connecticut Path, and disclosed that 25 York Road had passed to the commission via Land Court. On the high school turf field, Facilities Director Michael Faia said written bids came back two to three times higher than verbal quotes; resident Dave Bernstein urged a roughly $100,000 grit chamber as a permanent fix.
