Building committee approves $95,000 community center change order

WAYLAND — July 4, 2024 — Wayland building committee approves $95,000 community center change order amid mounting schedule concerns. The Permanent Municipal Building Committee unanimously recommended Change Order No. 1 totaling $95,291.26 on the Council on Aging community center, bundling a $28,411 water service reroute, $19,971.32 in mechanical and electrical drawing revisions, a $29,524 sewer fix, a $6,553 grease trap relocation and roughly $10,000 in lighting substitutions. Substantial completion has slipped from Dec. 2 to Feb. 6, and members directed staff to truck a 450-cubic-yard contaminated topsoil pile to an industrial landfill in Maine at an estimated $40,000 in tipping fees, warning that further delay would invite contractor claims. On the library project, architect Kim Buell was told to remove a $13,975 HVAC design-development line from her revised $202,975 fee proposal and carry mechanical replacement as a separate fourth project. The committee also accepted a Stones Bridge construction contract from Cape Cod Builders, roughly $2,500 below the previous low bid.
