Board of Health clears Veritas septic plan and Charena Farms subdivision

WAYLAND — May 12, 2025 — Wayland Board of Health clears Veritas Christian Academy septic plan and Charena Farms subdivision. The board voted 5-0 to accept design firm Robio's response to peer reviewer Greg Roy of Dillis and Roy, who flagged that a stormwater infiltration basin 50 feet from a proposed 2,500-gallon-per-day leaching field would create a cumulative groundwater mound reducing the Title 5 offset from five feet to 3.7 feet during a 100-year storm. Engineer Jay Thrasher said raising the field 1.3 feet would force unacceptable grading toward an abutter. The board leaned on a May 9 MassDEP email from Susanna King confirming the code "doesn't speak to the mounding analysis." A second 5-0 vote approved engineer Kevin O'Leary's three-lot Charena Farms subdivision for owners Carol and Mark Cito, featuring a 90-chamber subsurface recharge system. Robert DeFrancesco was re-elected chair.
