Wayland ZBA approves three special permits, renews YMCA camp on busy night
WAYLAND -- May 21, 2024, Wayland zoning chair announces resignation amid five-case docket. Zoning Board of Appeals Chair Joshua Wernig said he will leave the board after its next meeting for personal reasons, leaving a third vacancy on the five-member panel. The board voted 5-0 to authorize KP Law to finalize a response to an open meeting law complaint from resident George H. Harris over delayed minutes, with Wernig calling Harris's demand that members take their own draft minutes "completely unreasonable." Special permits were granted 5-0 for new homes at 5 Garden Path (Place/Marston) and Sherman Bridge Road (Greenstein, expanding gross floor area from roughly 1,800 to 4,466 square feet), a barn at 21 Pemberton Road, and a five-year renewal of the West Suburban YMCA's Camp Chickami permit with a two-year check-in. Abutter Malcolm Astley said organized camper chanting remains "quite disturbing" in his residential neighborhood. The contested 16 Davlin Road tear-up was continued to June 11.
