Wayland ZBA approves Tally Ho Lane deck, defers South Street expansion

WAYLAND -- June 10, 2025, Wayland ZBA clears Tally Ho Lane deck but sends 5 South Street back for redesign. The four-member board voted 4-0 Tuesday to grant Lady So a special permit under sections 203.1 and 401.1.2 to finish a low platform deck at 3 Tally Ho Lane, after abutter Marie Fagan of 1 Gray Birch Lane told members the structure was "not intrusive." Members Adam Hirsh, Justine Paul, Aida A. Gennis and Chair Thomas William White then pressed homeowner Ying Chen Kao to rework plans expanding a 1,260-square-foot Cape at 5 South Street into a 2,688-square-foot home with a garage sited 10 feet from the east line, short of the 15-foot setback on a 9,800-square-foot lot. White called the proposed mass too aggressive; Gennis suggested dormers. Kao agreed to continue to July 8 rather than risk a one-year refiling bar.
