Wayland water committee moves toward Clearcast treatment on Heard Pond

WAYLAND -- November 13, 2023, Wayland's Surface Water Quality Committee plans a new Clearcast application on Heard Pond after an explosive water chestnut resurgence. Chair Thomas Klem told members he briefed the Select Board and Town Manager Mike McCall the prior week, floating a mid-five-figure estimate modeled on this year's ProcellaCOR treatment at Dudley Pond, though he said the actual cost will be "far too high" relative to reality because Clearcast would target only a few acres at the south cove. Member Thomas J. Largy is awaiting a quote from SOLitude's Keith Gazelle covering both treatment and a new Notice of Intent, since prior herbicide orders have expired. Member Norm Marowitz reported the Dudley Pond Association will fund at least half of a roughly $55,000 conveyor, with DPW covering the rest. The committee will meet Dec. 11 to review quotes.
