Wayland Town Meeting clears Cochituate Road for affordable housing development

WAYLAND — April 8, 2025 — Wayland Town Meeting approves four-acre affordable housing transfer and $250,000 environmental cleanup. On the second night of the 2025 Annual Town Meeting, voters backed Article 30 transferring 212 Cochituate Road to the Select Board for potential affordable and shared-living housing 199-75, after adopting a Susan Weinstein amendment 158-92 barring market-rate-only use. Select Board member Tom Fay said the parcel could house "six to nine residents per home" of adults with disabilities. Voters also appropriated $250,000 to remediate petroleum, metals and PFAS contamination at 193-195 Main Street (258-8), passed over a $75,000 grass-field feasibility study 190-75, and adopted a non-binding resolution 206-71 to keep exploring a 30,000-square-foot indoor recreation facility there. A sense-of-the-meeting resolution to ban second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides on town property passed 219-20 after the motion to pass over failed by a single vote, 113-114. An Energy Projects Revolving Fund with a $50,000 FY26 cap cleared 157-13.
