Wayland subcommittee charts 18-month plan for elementary school building study

WAYLAND — May 3, 2024 — Wayland subcommittee maps 18-month path to a pre-K–8 building plan. The School Committee's Finance Subcommittee on May 3 outlined a timeline aimed at submitting a Statement of Interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority by March 2026, anchored by roughly $288,000 already appropriated for long-range planning. Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Susan Bottan told members Jeanne Downs, Ellen Grieco and remote participant Mark Foreman that the district has "the nuts and bolts covered" from facility assessments dating to 2012 and now needs a design and engineering firm to study pre-K through grade 8 space against MSBA's model school standards. Using Lexington's 2021 master facility study as a template, the group drafted a charge for an advisory committee, with a community visioning weekend targeted for early September and a consultant hired by April 2025. Bottan also projected the district would break even at year-end.
