Wayland schools to deliver draft goals in six categories by Sept. 20

WAYLAND — August 23, 2023 — Wayland acting superintendent pledges draft district goals by Sept. 20 across six categories. Acting Superintendent David Fleischman told the School Committee on Aug. 23 that a two-day administrative retreat produced the framework, which will span academics, equity and belonging, social-emotional wellness, student services, community engagement and operations. Fleischman recommended making the assistant superintendent role — held on an interim basis by Betsy Gavron — a permanent teaching-and-learning position, and announced the hiring of retiring Natick HR director Suzanne Kenney as a part-time consultant to review Wayland's human resources functions. Member Ellen Grieco urged the team to set goals as if "there wasn't a tight year coming up." Chair Erin Lee said crumb-rubber migration from the 2018 high school turf field is now under engineering review with the town. Marie Brigham was named interim assistant principal at Claypit Hill.
