Wayland School Committee backs capital committee, $250,000 DPW site cleanup

WAYLAND — March 26, 2025 — Wayland School Committee endorses $250,000 DPW site cleanup and a new town capital committee. At a March 26 hearing that drew no public questions, the committee closed a fiscal 2026 school budget growing 4.48 percent over the current year, with Superintendent David saying "what we have now, this year, will look very similar to next year" and confirming that free full-day kindergarten is now permanent. Members voted unanimously to propose amending Article 17 to add the schools' Director of Finance and Operations as an ex-officio member of the proposed Capital Improvement Planning Committee, and to back the article either way. They also unanimously supported Article 34's up-to-$250,000 environmental remediation at 195 Main Street — "worse than a vacant lot," one member said — and Article 36's non-binding resolution to explore a multipurpose indoor athletic facility there. A draft therapy-dog policy (IMG) was released for public comment.
