Wayland School Committee approves FY24 annual report, advances superintendent search

WAYLAND -- September 18, 2024, Wayland School Committee approves FY24 annual report, advances superintendent search. The committee voted 5-0 on Sept. 18 to approve the annual report, due to the Select Board by Sept. 30, after tweaking language on bridging "learning gaps while addressing social and emotional needs of students post-pandemic." Members Kate Sambucco and Christina Rodrigues, the superintendent search subcommittee, reported quotes of roughly $10,000 from NESDEC and $12,500 from HYA, plus a la carte fees, and proposed a two-week community survey modeled on Weston's, which drew over 600 responses. MASC's Glenn Koocher told them communication, municipal collaboration, financial management, teacher input and people skills drive nearly every search. Wayland Youth Basketball's Donny Guaraneri urged adding a fourth facility-use tier separating local for-profits from out-of-town operators, and pledged uniform donations for middle and high school basketball. The committee meets again Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. to finalize the survey.
