WAYLAND — July 23, 2024 — Wayland Planning Board moves to rotating chair amid unresolved staffing crisis. Outgoing Chair Anette S. Lewis told members Tuesday that Town Manager Michael McCall had acknowledged but not answered her letter requesting administrative support, and member Jen Steel volunteered to serve as acting chair for August under a new month-by-month rotation. Town Planner Robert Hummel said he spends roughly 30 percent of his week on administrative work, calling Wayland "the unicorn where I have to do mostly admin work." Lewis disclosed she had personally logged five and a half hours of department admin work during one week Hummel was out. The board approved June 25 minutes 5-0, edited a draft fee schedule untouched since 2004, and adjourned at 9:37 p.m. with the MBTA Communities state filing still pending before mid-August.
