Wayland HRDEI Committee to seek $5,000 Sudbury Foundation grant for trainings

WAYLAND — July 18, 2023 — Wayland human rights committee unanimously pursues $5,000 Sudbury Foundation grant for community trainings. Acting Chair Karen Blumenfeld led the HRDEI Committee Tuesday in the absence of Chair Yamini Ranjan, with members voting 7-0 to authorize Mei Ling Lin-Krasner, new member Marianne Borkowski and clerk Jessica Schundel to draft a grant application by the Aug. 11 deadline covering trainings on domestic abuse, coercive control, harassment and racism. The committee separately voted 7-0 to ask the Select Board whether it may endorse state legislation within its purview, including bills expanding Chapter 209A and curbing "abusive litigation" against domestic-violence survivors. Member Janot Mendler de Suarez said planning for the SPIRIT community dialogue — targeting late October or early November and up to 120 attendees — is underway with U.S. DOJ facilitation. A proposed Oct. 7 screening of the film "Sight" was tabled over its Indigenous Peoples Day weekend timing.
