Wayland HRDEI committee approves two co-sponsorships, names co-clerks

WAYLAND — August 19, 2025 — Wayland HRDEI committee adds two co-sponsorships and names co-clerks. The committee voted unanimously Tuesday to co-sponsor a Nov. 10 community conversation with Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan alongside the Sudbury DEI Commission and the two towns' police departments, and a four-session "Conversations for Change" series facilitated by Dr. Eden-Renée Hayes with the library and historical society on Oct. 16, Nov. 3, Dec. 4 and Jan. 15. Chair Karen Blumenfeld said there is no financial commitment in either co-sponsorship. Members Asma Khan and Yao Tang were unanimously named co-clerks, with Tang producing AI-drafted minutes that Khan will finalize. The committee also opened discussion of the town's new Community Life and Engagement Executive Report by Dr. Damon A. Williams, which the Select Board is set to take up Sept. 2. Hayes warned that statements without follow-through "tend to be read as performative."
