Wayland housing trust approves $10,000 for regional office co-director

WAYLAND — March 18, 2025 — Wayland's Municipal Affordable Housing Trust voted 4-0 to send $10,000 to the Regional Housing Services Office to fund a co-director. Town Planner Robert Hummel told the trust that RHSO Director Liz Rust will retire in June 2026 and that town managers across the roughly nine member communities, including Wayland Town Manager Michael McCall, agreed last spring to each chip in a flat $10,000 for the overlap year. Hummel called it "one of the last routes that I'm going down" after the Community Preservation Committee and his own planning budget declined the ask. Vice Chair Susan Weinstein, who sits on the CPC, said members there felt "affordable housing money goes to the trust, and so the trust should be the one dispensing it." The trust also flagged a spring town meeting article transferring 212 Cochituate Road to the Select Board, with member Mary Antes weighing a floor amendment to bar a market-rate-only outcome.
