Wayland equity assessment RFP set to go live within days

WAYLAND — December 19, 2023 — Wayland's equity assessment RFP heads live as HRDEIC chair Yamini steps down. The Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee conducted a "red flag review" Dec. 19 of the draft request for proposals, walked through by DEI strategist Dr. Eden Renee Hayes, who was hired by the town as a thought partner. Bids are expected to close in late January or early February, with procurement officer John Bugbee estimating roughly a month from due date to notice-to-proceed and up to 12 months for a final report. Member Yawu objected that the document lacked "shall" statements specifying contractor requirements, while member Marianne pressed for language requiring a diverse bidder staff — wording Bugbee said had been removed to avoid a bid protest. The committee voted 8-0 to co-sponsor a Jan. 23 library event with author Joel Johnson. Chair Yamini announced her resignation effective in the new year, citing family and professional commitments.
