Wayland EDC tracks 40B hearings and a stalled Route 20 master plan
WAYLAND — June 9, 2023 — Wayland EDC tracks 40B hearings and a frozen Route 20 master plan. The committee approved its minutes 5-0 and otherwise compared notes across a dozen open files at Friday's session led by Chair Rebecca Stanizzi. Town Planner Robert Hummel said Wayland fell out of 40B safe harbor on May 18 and is projected to be short roughly 49 affordable units; the ZBA opened substantive hearings on the Saint Anne's project the night before, with abutters pushing a parking-lot alternative that Hummel said would cost $2.5 million to $5 million. Hummel also reported that the Wayland Center/Route 20 Master Plan consultants have been on hold for weeks because the town has not paid them under a funding arrangement he called "very complicated," with Town Manager Michael McCall auditing remaining town center gift funds. The town has applied for an additional $30,000 to keep MBTA Communities zoning work moving with consultant Judy Barrett, focused on a Mainstone-area district. Dunkin' has declined the former Bank of America site, which is now for sale.
