Wayland EDC to pursue pickup-window zoning article at April town meeting

WAYLAND — September 13, 2024 — Wayland EDC will pursue an April town-meeting article allowing restaurant pickup windows on Route 20. Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi said Town Planner Robert Hummel will raise the concept at the Planning Board's Sept. 24 meeting, distinguishing app-based pickup windows from full drive-thrus, which members agreed would back up Route 20 traffic. The push comes as the broker for the vacant former Bank of America building told Stanizzi the owner is "about to pull it off the market" for lack of interest; member Brad Young said the owner remains at "loggerheads" with Dunkin' corporate. Separately, Hummel reported the attorney general's office cleared Wayland's MBTA Communities zoning with no legal issues, though state housing review is pending. The Shared Streets agreement with Zurich is in final form for a Sept. 26 Select Board vote, targeting an Oktoberfest activation. June 14 minutes were approved 4-0.
