Wayland EDC forwards Route 20 survey questions to Planning Board

WAYLAND — March 17, 2023 — Wayland's Economic Development Committee voted to send the Planning Board a structured list of process fixes and survey questions for the Route 20 master plan. Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi said BETA Group's first public forum leaned too heavily on aesthetic polling tied to images of Weston and Lexington that "is just not us," and asked the consultants to instead define proper setbacks for a high-speed corridor without parallel parking. Member Brad Young pressed for BETA to surface big structural ideas — such as a road behind Russell's or a pedestrian connection to Town Center — rather than "a 45-minute aside on facade colors." Members backed splitting future outreach into two surveys, one for residents and one for Route 20 businesses, and flagged a town wastewater rule requiring sewer applicants to first prove on-site septic feasibility as "arguably outdated." BETA's next forum is expected in June.
