Wayland EDC braces for Town Center sale to close within 60 days

WAYLAND — October 17, 2025 — Wayland EDC awaits Town Center closing as new local ownership prepares to take over. Town Planner Robert Hummel told the committee Friday the sale is expected to close in 30 to 60 days, and Select Board liaison Tom Fay said the buyer group includes "at least one local person" — a profile he called "huge" for the plaza's future. Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi will email Select Board Chair Carol Martin to schedule a joint meeting in the second half of November. Members agreed to rebrand a proposed town green "splash pad" as a broader recreation area, with member David Villari calling Raytheon-related environmental restrictions the project's "go or no go." Hummel said any land swap would require a town meeting vote and an amended planning board master special permit. The committee approved Aug. 28 minutes 5-0 and adjourned 4-0 at 9:45 a.m.
