Wayland EDC approves Article Z voter materials ahead of April 7 town meeting

WAYLAND — March 14, 2025 — Wayland EDC advances Article Z voter materials as residents blast permitting and Route 20 plan. Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi led a four-member committee through unanimous votes approving a detailed two-page infographic and a separate one-page summary explaining the pre-order pickup window zoning amendment going before April 7 town meeting. Wayland Personal Physicians partner Jonathan Smith told the committee permitting in town is "atrocious," saying his practice has spent thousands of dollars and over a month waiting for fire-department sign-off on a space whose layout has not changed in eight years. The Select Board has placed Article Z on the warrant by a 4-0-1 vote and added the Wayland Business Association as co-sponsor on a second 4-0-1 vote. Member Katie Noble Harris will lead the rewrite, emphasizing survey data and a flat statement that Article Z does not authorize drive-thrus.
