Wayland Cultural Council advances bulk of grant applications for December decision

WAYLAND — November 20, 2024 — Wayland Cultural Council clears most grant applications and reserves $1,340 for its own programs. Meeting by Zoom on Nov. 20, Chair Pallavi Nagesha led members Naresh Mysore, Marie Isenburg, Dona Mitra and non-voting member Alyssa Ao through more than 20 applications totaling roughly $16,000 against an $11,260 grant pool from the state's $12,600 allocation. Unanimous advances went to a $1,400 Wayland Historical Commission interpretive sign at Dudley Woods, a $1,000 Council on Aging community center opening, an $895 library dinosaur fossil show, and $500 each for the Wayland Chinese American Association's Lunar New Year and the Wayland Concert Series. A $2,175 pop-art sculpture proposal was rejected unanimously after Nagesha said it lacked permits: "Do they have everything put together, which they don't." Final dollar awards come Dec. 11.
