Wayland conservation panel revives stalled enforcement orders, plans tougher tree rules

WAYLAND — January 29, 2025 — Wayland Conservation Commission revives stalled enforcement cases and targets April for new tree rules. Administrator Linda Hansen told the commission Jan. 29 she has sent reminder letters on year-old enforcement orders at 110 Concord Road, 5 Hickory Hill, 14 Squirrel Hill Road and 39 Concord Road, most drawing no response; she is trying to recoup a $2,500 bill from consultant Matt Burns for the Squirrel Hill assessment after homeowners pumped pond water into Upper Mill Brook over Patriots' Day weekend. "I wish we had more teeth," member Shannon Fischer said of ignored orders. Chair Sean P. Fair set a March deadline to circulate revised Chapter 193 stormwater regulations and a stricter tree-replacement schedule to other boards, with an April public hearing, citing MS4 permit timelines. The commission also unanimously issued a Chapter 193 permit for 8 Campbell Road, conditioned on adding driveway-runoff controls.
