Wayland Conservation Commission picks Tetra Tech to peer-review St. Anne's Senior Village

WAYLAND — March 20, 2024 — Wayland confirms crumb rubber from high school turf field has reached the Sudbury River floodplain. Conservation Administrator Linda Hansen told the Conservation Commission on March 20 that a site visit with U.S. Fish and Wildlife biologist Stephanie Koch found pellets deposited roughly halfway between the field's drainage ditch and the river's high-water line, with "pounds and pounds" migrating after major storms beginning in September 2021. The town has dropped a proposed grit chamber at the outfall in favor of perimeter screens, a reversal Hansen said felt like "going backwards." Commissioners also unanimously retained Tetra Tech to peer-review the 30-unit St. Anne's Senior Village notice of intent at 124 Cochituate Road, continued to May 1, and issued a negative determination allowing Boston Gas Company to abandon a main at Andrew Avenue, disturbing about 200 square feet of pavement within the wetland buffer.
