Wayland Conservation Commission extends stormwater rule comment period to June 18

WAYLAND — May 28, 2025 — Wayland extends stormwater rule comment period after newspaper misprints hearing date. The Conservation Commission opened its hearing Wednesday on draft regulations under Chapter 193, then agreed to keep written comments open through its June 18 meeting after residents said The Wayland Post listed the wrong date. Stephen Myro questioned a one-to-one inch tree replacement ratio and a 180-day replanting window, while former Board of Public Works chair Clifford Lewis said "virtually every activity of the DPW is basically covered by these regulations." Conservation Administrator Linda Hansen, who said the 2019 draft was modeled on Weston's rules and updated for MS4 compliance, conceded the bylaw's 500-square-foot threshold drives much of the administrative burden. The commission separately voted 7-0 to permit herbicide treatment of invasive water chestnut at Heard Pond and waived peer review on a 40 Loker Street rebuild after impervious surface was cut about 900 square feet. A vote on the stormwater rules is targeted for July 9.
