Wayland committee to draft RFI on 212 Cochituate Road housing

WAYLAND — August 6, 2025 — Wayland's 212 Cochituate Road Advisory Committee will draft a public request for information after hearing from two supportive-housing operators on the four-acre town-owned site. Larry Oaks, president and CEO of Mainstay Supportive Housing and Home Care, described a six-house, 65-client model in which roughly 60 percent of residents cover costs through Social Security, Section 8 and group adult foster care, while fewer than 10 percent pay the full roughly $3,500 monthly cost out of pocket. "We cobble together money from different disparate sources," Oaks told the panel. Chris Canna, vice president of real estate development at the Corporation for Independent Living, said CIL owns about 250 Massachusetts group homes and could deliver two on the Wayland parcel "in 10 months," aided by state Facilities Consolidation Fund awards approaching $1 million per home. The committee, chaired by Tom Fay, voted 6-0 to approve revised July 16 minutes and must recommend a use to the Select Board by Feb. 15, 2026.
