Wayland committee approves superintendent's evaluation, adopts 2025-26 district goals

WAYLAND — August 18, 2025 — Wayland gives Superintendent David Fleischman top marks in first full-year review. The School Committee rated Fleischman "exemplary" in instructional leadership, management and operations, and professional culture, and "proficient" in family and community engagement, after Chair Erin Gibbons and members conducted more than a dozen interviews with district leaders. Members upgraded his student services and fiscal/facilities goals to "exceeded," citing the expansion of language-based programming through 11th grade, a new 18-to-22 transition program, the shift to building-level special education administrators, and a school-town relationship evaluators called "better than they've ever seen it." Three firms submitted proposals by Monday's noon deadline for the district's facilities master plan consultant. The committee also adopted 2025-26 goals featuring districtwide executive-function work with consultant Sarah Ward, a K-5 Wayfinder social-emotional rollout, and co-teaching launching in nine days. Member Kate said community feedback emphasized "consistency and accountability" as the leading growth areas.
