Wayland assessors commit $140,533 in motor vehicle excise on 410 bills

WAYLAND — August 5, 2024 — Wayland Board of Assessors commits $140,533 in motor vehicle excise across 410 bills. The three members present at the Aug. 5 remote meeting — acting chair Massimo Taurisano with Douglass McNeilly and Steven Klitgord — unanimously approved the fiscal 2025 fourth commitment on a valuation of $9,397,128.91, with bills going out Aug. 12. The office reported its fiscal 2024 annual town report is roughly 50 percent complete and will include six years of abatement and Appellate Tax Board history; the assessor promised "a 99.9 Dove soap draft" a week before the Sept. 9 meeting. McNeilly asked to meet separately Aug. 8 to develop a simpler explanation of how the tax rate produces individual bills, noting his own rate, adjusted for inflation, "has not changed" over 20 years.
