Wayland assessors approve $198,855 excise commitment, welcome new member

WAYLAND — May 16, 2024 — Wayland assessors approve $198,855 excise commitment and seat new member McNeilly. The Board of Assessors voted 4-0 at its May 16 remote meeting to approve the third fiscal 2024 motor vehicle and trailer excise commitment — 438 bills totaling $198,855.15 in tax on $10,386,989.63 in valuation — with bills to be issued May 22. Vice-Chair Philip David Parks welcomed new member Douglass McNeilly, a residential real estate agent and Wayland resident since 2013, and thanked outgoing member Sharon Burke for three years of service. Chair Zachariah L. Ventress abstained on all votes pending re-swearing by the town clerk after the recent town election, saying he needed to "get sworn in for my new term." Staff also reported the former U.S. military housing parcel on Oxbow Road has been converted to a condominium and split into 12 buildings, with four sales already pending, in time for preliminary FY25 billing in June.
