Wayland approves additional Super Wednesdays as math curriculum review launches

WAYLAND — October 4, 2022 — Wayland launches first K-5 math curriculum review in roughly a decade. The School Committee on Tuesday heard that a 14-member panel is evaluating seven highly rated programs — including enVision, HMH Into Math, i-Ready, Illustrative Math, Origo, Reveal Math and Bridges — against state CURATE and EdReports rubrics, with a pilot planned February through May and a selection in June. The district has also placed full-time math coaches in each elementary school and hired interventionist Michael Rosenbloom, who is serving about 52 students at Claypit Hill using Bridges Intervention. Members pressed staff on equity after learning roughly 30 qualifying students at Happy Hollow and Loker are not receiving the same pull-out service. The committee unanimously added Dec. 14 and Feb. 1 as Super Wednesdays, and was told the Loker roof project finished more than $1 million under budget.
