Select Board cuts EDC's Route 20 engineering request to $200,000

WAYLAND — February 9, 2024 — Wayland EDC advances Route 20 engineering at one-third its original ask. The Economic Development Committee confirmed Feb. 9 that the Select Board pared its request for full Route 20 curb-cut engineering from $600,000 to $200,000, with the balance expected in the fiscal 2026 budget. Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi said the town must file plans to get on the state Transportation Improvement Program list: "You can't even be invited to the dance if you don't have your dance card." Town Planner Robert Hummel said consultants will present a Route 20 master plan, including a 3D model, at a hybrid public forum the following Tuesday. The committee also discussed MBTA Communities zoning — which Stanizzi said could generate roughly $4 million in annual tax revenue at full 750-unit buildout — welcomed newly sworn member Karen Kelly, and heard from state Rep. Michael McCall that an unnamed biotech firm has expressed interest in roughly 30,000 square feet in town.
