Planning Board divides FY26 bylaw work, eyes four zoning articles

WAYLAND — June 10, 2025 — Wayland Planning Board hears assessment tutorial and parcels out FY26 zoning assignments. Director of Assessing Rob LaRue told members residential property carries 95.7 percent of the town's levy versus 2.8 percent commercial, with preliminary first- and second-quarter fiscal 2026 commitments of $45.5 million in real estate, $597,000 in personal property across 288 accounts, and $623,000 in CPA surcharges. LaRue said Alta Oxbow will be assessed at $98 million this year and "most often commercial properties are assessed higher than residential property," but declined to estimate how a bank-to-restaurant conversion at the Bank of America site might shift revenue. Chair Anette S. Lewis assigned ADU work to Vice Chair Robin Borgestedt, solar and battery storage to Clerk Jesse Newberry, and outdoor-seating site plans to Ira Montague. The board voted 4-0 to appoint Larry Kiernan to the Community Preservation Committee and cancelled its June 24 meeting.
