Personnel Board approves two non-union policies, sends jury duty rule back for revision

WAYLAND — December 10, 2024 — Wayland Personnel Board approves two non-union policies, holds jury duty rule for a cap. The board voted 4-0 on Dec. 10 to adopt revisions to the general policy statement (N1-1.0) and military leave policy (N4-7.1), with the latter amended to cite the federal USERRA statute. Members Maryanne Peabody, Mary Ellen Castagno, Jill Zukerman and Paul Morenberg sent the jury duty policy back after Morenberg warned the open-ended salary differential "should not exceed 30 days" in lengthy trials; state law mandates only the first three days. HR Manager Kate Bryan said the classification and compensation study RFP, delayed by procurement turnover, will release in January, with three of four union contracts expiring June 2026. The board tentatively set its next meeting for Jan. 7.
