Personnel Board approves two job-description revisions, weighs $30,000 warrant article

WAYLAND — February 7, 2023 — Wayland Personnel Board backs job-description fixes and presses for balance in $30,000 warrant article. The board unanimously approved revised descriptions for the sustainability manager and DPW project manager positions on Feb. 7, lowering the sustainability role's required experience from three-to-five years to one-to-three after a top candidate declined the job. HR Director Kate said she worked with Sustainability Committee chair Ellen Tone and Ben Keefe on the rewrite. Select Board member Dave Williams, calling in from Logan Airport, asked the board for guidance on a draft article appropriating $30,000 to hire a consultant to update the personnel handbook and Chapter 43 of the town code. Member Deb warned that the article's focus on policy revisions risked sidelining work on the board's own bylaw role: "The path we went down to begin with may be the thing that's taking a back seat." The board then entered executive session on a NEPBA Local 176 grievance.
