Historic District Commission defers ruling on Winthrop Road fence color
WAYLAND — August 4, 2025 — Wayland Historic District Commission defers a Winthrop Road fence color decision pending a neighborhood walk-through. The applicant, identified as Aaron, told the commission Monday that his newly rebuilt cedar fence at 18 Winthrop Road could be finished in stark white, Gunsmith Gray to match his house body, Parish White to match the adjoining neighbor's fence, or left to weather. Chair Greg Dale opened a public hearing at which no residents spoke. An architect member said the Parish White option "does make the most sense to me" for uniformity but cited a fence near the fire station that has "weathered naturally" and "looks fantastic." The board agreed to survey nearby fences and follow up by email in roughly three weeks before issuing a certificate of appropriateness. Members also approved June 9 minutes and agreed to return regular meetings to Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
