Historic District Commission clears ADU conversion at 2 Boat Road
WAYLAND -- July 16, 2024, Wayland Historic District Commission clears 2 Boat Road garage-to-ADU conversion and exempts temporary signs from review. Acting Chair Margery F. Baston presided over the July 16 hearing as the commission voted 4-0-1 to approve shed dormers and matching fiber-cement siding on the existing garage structure, with alternate Gretchen Schuler abstaining over her objection that the side dormers terminate at the main ridge rather than below it. The architect said dropping the termination point would force a load-bearing ridge and added cost. Members also approved three Benjamin Moore historic colors, Philipsburg Blue HC-159, Van Courtland Blue HC-145 and Hudson Blue HC-149, for the homeowner to choose among. In a second hearing, the commission unanimously exempted temporary signs from its jurisdiction, a change Schuler said would let First Parish, the Wayland Museum and the Wayland Depot post sandwich-board event notices without a month-ahead hearing. "Our focus is preservation that really does need to be preserved permanently," Schuler said.
